Teams of student engineers have been charged with creating a fully automated vertical hydroponics vegetable garden that can be used to grow food in harsh environments. Design teams are responsible for collecting, analyzing, and responding to individual variables within the system. Their projects involve wiring, calibrating, and coding sensors that are programmed on Arduino microcontrollers. They have also designed and 3D printed sensor housings and project boxes to mount and protect their monitoring systems. System data is then interfaced with Raspberry Pi computers for remote monitoring on IoT dashboards that can be viewed from a device of their choosing.
