"In this workshop, staff from the South Huntington UFSD and the SnappyXO team will lead attendees through a series of hands-on robot and mechanical design exercises using the SnappyXO robot kit and the MotionGen app to design and prototype simpler mechanical contraptions to more complex machines and robots. In the process, attendees will be able to experience first-hand how to incorporate significant design activities in the classroom while teaching STEM concepts.

SnappyXO robot kits have been used in a High School Robotics Competition organized by South Huntington SD and ExtremeSTEAM program as well as in several robotics camps, workshops, and Hackathon. For example, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0S-HURPaiAo for a short presentation on the two-week summer Robotics camp for 6th-11th grade students from 15 different schools on Long Island. The program was sponsored and organized by Stony Brook University MTRC program.

SnappyXO Design (http://www.snappyxo.com) is an innovative, affordable, and customizable design-driven robotics education framework for K-12 schools and post-secondary institutions. This framework enables students from elementary to high-school to be creative and inventive while learning STEM concepts in an engineering design context. The framework has been supported by grants from National Science Foundation and SUNY Research Foundation and is invented by an award-winning professor of Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University. It consists of a patent-pending robot kit, which is intuitive, low-cost, and customizable, and a mobile app called MotionGen to help students design robot motions, prototype, and program them. The robot kit works with off-the-shelf electronics, open source software, such as Arduino, and employs an open architecture to allow users to design and make their own parts."
