Members of our panel will offer ideas for using a variety of apps and websites to support students learning any language. In addition, we will discuss how we use technology to support ELLs in content classes. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with the featured tools.
Coding is more than a keyboard and a screen. Students can connect hardware such as Makey Makey and Microbit to the block based coding program Scratch to create new inventions, design custom controllers and bring student ideas to life. Teachers will become familiar with the tools and collaborate on ideas to incorporate this technology into curriculum. This interactive workshop will allow teachers to learn through hands-on experience with Makey Makey, Microbit and Scratch 3.0.
We will share information about our weekly morning news show and the ways other schools can replicate our program to meet their needs. Various forms of technology will be shared including Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Digital Video Cameras, Lighting, Green Screen and audio.

Coding should not look like a silent classroom with students working independently. The OYOClass platform turns the classroom into a collaborative world. All too often those trying to both innovate and sustain technology based innovations need to recognize and respect the process of successful planning by overlooking or lacking the futuring processes needed to embed and more importantly, align their exciting change with their deeper purposes. This workshop will show decision maker skills and strategies they can use to engage everyone to view their probable future and decide whether this matches with their preferred future so that they can action design to realize their want.

In this session, the ENL teacher and Library Media Specialist will explain the learning commons model and demonstrate how the model benefits ENL students. The session will include a variety of high-tech and low-tech hands-on makerspace activities that promote language acquisition, problem solving, socialization, and cultural exchange. ENL students will be present to facilitate some of the activities.
As a special education teacher and a lover of technology, I'm always looking for software to help streamline my day and keep me organized. When our district gave us chrome books, I looked everywhere for a program that would help me collect data on my student's IEP goals. When I couldn't find anything to suit my needs, I decided to start my own company and create one my self. Through my company, Dembry LLC, I produced Datability Web, a web based data collection program. Users can import their IEP goals, then receive reminders when it's time to collect data. Datability Web produces full color reports with graphed percentages, full color pictures, and notes.
Cybersecurity has become paramount as schools increasingly rely on technology for data collection and instruction. As the gatekeepers of student data, school districts need to build a “digital moat” to protect student data. How do you build a “digital moat”? With increased network security, cyber-awareness, and cybersecurity training.
Have you ever been interested in flipping your classroom? Do you feel like you need to change your day to day pedagogy? This presentation will go over the steps to create lecture or instructional videos that students can watch for homework and how to incorporate Edpuzzle to embed questions to check for student understanding (and to make sure they watched). Through this, teachers can utilize the classroom for small group or one on one instruction to work on skill and project-based learning. While this session will utilize Social Studies as the model, any subject could benefit from the flipped model.
This presentation will show how students can become the designers of their own carnival to develop collaboration and business skills while showing off their creative talents. Using mathematics and technology classes, as well as the engineering design process learned in science class, lessons on probability, coding, algebra, geometry, and science have given students empowerment in their learning while becoming confident problem solvers. Presenters will show how this project can teach students science, technology, engineering, art, and math skills as students create carnival games by using a 3D-Printer to code, print, and build their own games. Students were tasked with designing a carnival game given business parameters and goals. The students then presented their games and math findings during a Carnival Day when students throughout the school came to play the carnival games and learn about math.

Computer simulation games have long been popular with young adult learners who, as a generation with extended exposure to modern video games, are particularly receptive to a computer-enhanced learning platforms. Employing the powerful complement of gamification and simulation to traditional teaching results in lessons that are productive, meaningful, engaging, and fun. Using the popular social media platform Snapchat will instantly get students attention and motivate them to have a geofilter chosen for the school or community! Geofilters are photo overlays that can appear based on ones location while using the app. Have your class engage in designing a geofilter for your school or your community. It is easier than you think and can use a variety of free or low cost software to design them. Additionally you can have a class design geofilters for a variety of school events anything from a dance to a fundraiser to graduation!

Learn how students design obstacle courses and use coding to engage and participate in learning activities. Learn how students are challenged given specific parameters to construct amazing obstacle courses for the Sphero robot. We will also discuss ways to use the Sphero robot with-in the classroom for learning about coding instruction.
ClassDojo is a communication app that can be used in the classroom that connects teachers, parents, and students. This app can be used to share photos, videos, and messages through the school day. It can also be used as a positive behavior enforcement too to help students stay on track. ClassDojo can be used to work together as a team to share in the classroom experience.

Teachers will look at ways that “Voice Typing” promotes spelling, grammar, and sentence structure on Google Docs.
